Salerno was home to one of the most important medical institutions in Europe: the Salerno Medical School, whose origins date back to the Middle Ages. This walking tour is entirely dedicated to the discovery of the places and the great characters that made the name of the Salerno Medical School great and that made it famous all over the world.

We propose an itinerary to be carried out on foot, in this fascinating scenario, putting human and nature's health first.

Experience

Starting from the Fornelle district, we will leave for the historic center: alleys, openings, squares up to the beautiful Romanesque quadriporticus of the Cathedral of San Matteo. From here we will go back to the highest part of the city, the Plaium Montisonce an area full of gardens and monasteries. It is here that we will visit a beautiful garden. The main stages:

• Rione Fornelle
• Quadriporticus of the Cathedral
• Largo Abate Conforti
• Garden of the Minerva

INTEGRATION

 Visit to the Giardino della Minerva, one of the most beautiful and panoramic places in the city, is part of the list of the most beautiful gardens in Italy. The garden welcomes about 400 species of plants, and is organized in terraces and the view sweeps over the entire Gulf of Salerno. The Garden is the custodian of ancient knowledge of medieval therapeutics, it is a very important place for the history of the city, as one of the headquarters of the Salerno Medical School.

• Entrance ticket to the Garden: 3.00 euros for adults, reduced 1.50
